Welcome to Hawaii's 6th installment of the United States Muaythai Federation's Youth Development League Scrimmage.
Youth Development League (YDL) that was developed to help make our athletes more competitive on the international level. The average starting age of most USA athletes in 21 years old. While in many most dominant countries in the sport such as Thailand, Russia, Ukraine, Uzebekastan, France, England, Peru, Israel, Sweden, etc ---start their athletes at 5 or 6 years old just like many other sports such as swimming, wrestling, soccer, etc.
The YDL is the USMF answer to having a clear model of development for our youth and a pathway to guide them to be successful within the sport and in their young, daily lives. Within the YDL there are there are 5 classes: A/B/C/D/E. All athletes start with "E" class or "Education Class". Athletes are matched based on an algorithm that matches they levels of aggression rather than simply matching based on weight. This is a perfect way to introduce a child to the sport and quickly build their confidence while minimizing the risk of head trauma in a young formative brain. It is the USMF belief that this is the only way that Muaythai will grow exponentially in the United States and produce World Class athletes.
